Every week we serve and worship alongside hundreds of people. We would love to receive your feedback, here, and encourage you to share our page and recommend our church and ministry to your friends.
One of our newer members passed away this morning. Many of you probably didn’t know him. Dave Waytecik. I am certain I spelled his last name wrong and for that I am sorry. He was baptized (and married on the same day in a small family and friends ceremony) after a terminal cancer diagnosis. So, he often didn’t have the strength to be in church. But, man-oh-man, did he ever love Jesus!! I love this man and will miss him every day from now until resurrection morning!!
1) GLOW Missionary: glow tracks are cheap. We need to get serious, as a church, about passing out GLOWs to everyone we meet and then come back and share our stories about how God used our GLOW Missionary activities to change lives. 2) Homes for Hope: every home in our church should be dedicated to reaching the community members around that home for Christ. Here’s what you do. First, find someone to journey with you as a prayer, accountability, and strategist partner. Church board members are perfect for this because they are already dedicated and experienced soul winners!! So, partner up. Then, pray every day over every single person and family and home in your community. Pray that Jesus will grow large in their eyes and hearts. Every week make a point to interact with every member of your community. Every month make a point to huddle up with your partner in the church lobby for five minutes: just to pray and strategize and encourage each other. And, quarterly, be intentional and pray purposefully that Jesus will give you one person from your community to baptize! 3) Baptism Coach. Everyone can be a Baptism Coach. It’s easy! Grab some baptismal bible study guides. Introduce how to use them. As their coach you ought to be working through the same studies on your own. Give your friend two copies and encourage them that as they are studying to pray that God will show them who He wants them to share a study with. Guarantee, the one preparing for baptism will pass out studies and may even become a Baptism Coach even as s/he is preparing for baptism and may even be able to get baptized with a friend or family member they have brought to Christ!! Meet once a week to review the lesson and drop off the next two. At your first meeting plan when they are going to get baptized. Pastor Tom has dedicated one Sabbath a month to baptisms. Baptism preparation should take about 8 weeks if the person is diligently studying two per week. So, set the date for their baptism. Let them know that the night before they are to be baptized they will need to meet at the church for baptism orientation. They can bring their family and friends with them. We will go over things like what happens in the baptistery, how to stand, baptismal robe fitting, and sharing Jesus with each other. Report back to the pastor the names of the coach and the candidate and the proposed baptismal date. Check out the master calendar to see when those baptism Sabbaths are. Next year we will be super intentional about making them every fourth sabbath.
We had a great board meeting tonight!! Covered EVERYTHING on the agenda, only one rabbit trail that I recall and done in less than 1 hour!! Only the 2nd 1 hour board meeting in just less than three years! Thanks Lajuana (my @board room 2nd in command!!) We were redemptive about some difficult issues and operated (quickly) with the Spirit of Christ. Thanks everyone for coming out tonight. We are nearly at 100% attendance. I think we were only missing three tonight. And, I know for sure that two of those were due to illness in the family. Let’s continue to pray for God’s blessings on our Family as we grow in Spirit and in Truth.

We set up chairs outside for prayer meeting tonight. It was the perfect evening for it. We had three guests who were go by on the sidewalk and saw what we were doing and came on over and joined our circle. Very happy for the additional fellowship tonight!
Everyone who can, meet at the church tonight at 6 to pray for baby Kellen. Complications in surgery
We just had a really great “Special Church Board” meeting. In it we adopted a new ministry organizational model template. And the elders will meet on Thursday to talk about refinement and implementation. We are hoping to have a simplified model ready for the nominating committee right away. We also voted to approve a new ministry: a “Are you Ready for Jesus?” Bi-annual Parade! As if this wasn’t enough, we also excitedly voted to approve the use of our church for one of our young family’s wedding and reception!! “Thank You God for guiding our hearts and words tonight!”
The culture of evangelism: 1. Redemptive friendships. 2. Showing God’s love in practical ways through Random Acts of Kindness. 3. Bridge building such as stop smoking, cooking classes, depression recovery, food pantry, etc. 4. Evangelism (decision) series. 5. On going discipling: classes such as bible marking, how to talk to your friends and family about Jesus, spiritual gifts, and serving in the church and community. Process to baptism: 1. Go through a study guides course with a friend or on your own. 2. Go through the pastor’s baptism class. 3. Recommendation to the church board. 4. Select one of our scheduled monthly baptisms. 5. Get baptized. 6. Discipling process. 7. Begin bringing your friends and family to Jesus and baptism. Everyone is a minister. God has called each of us to do something in His service. Today began our children’s and adult baptism class. Thank you to those who were able to make it. I hope to see more of you as we continue. Coming soon: bible marking, how to give bible studies, and evangelistic preaching. I look forward to continued equipping of the church family for ministry this year!!

Last night’s board meeting was one of our most successful! We began with a season of prayer for each other and for the church. And, we stopped and prayed over our church once in the middle and another time at the end. We spent an hour discussing Evangelism, especially from the perspective of a book we are working through as a board, Evangelism Intelligence, by Roger Walters. In this discussion we were united in remembering times when we had a successful and vibrant culture to support Evangelism and mentor disciples and recognized that we need to rebuild that culture. “If the church works, Evangelism works. If the church doesn’t...” we also discussed simple things like how to better manage the church office, and how to make sure there is someone available to answer the phone. We identified the need to have the pastor available for community members on Tuesday mornings. We discussed how sad we are to have divisions between our church family and our sister church(es), and decided that we would do all in our power to end partisanship in our church communities. I mean, it was an amazing church board experience! I am so proud of our church board members and so grateful for the strength and determination to persevere as the clock hands swept far too swiftly across the clock face.
Today was Coos Bay SDA’s Prayer and Praise service. Wow! The Holy Spirit was so incredibly present, today! As our members and guests shared scriptures, testimonies of God’s answered prayers and His faithfulness; as we shared songs and had a special re-commitment to Christ celebration with laying on of hands and oil anointing. Today was a super high Sabbath! I am so incredibly blessed to have been ministered to so generously, today! I am encouraged😇
Speaking about the DNA of a church. What is the absolute and bare essential essence of who we are. Assuredly, yesterday’s solutions were implemented to address yesterday’s problems. Even, today’s problem’s must be addressed with today’s solutions. Often, yesterday’s solutions are today’s problems. This means that we have to change, today, in order to create and implement solutions unique to today’s culture and social climate. And so, as we address change, even before we can begin that conversation, we must identify what our church’s unique DNA is that it survives the change. If we don’t create intentional space to preserve the DNA, we risk losing the church altogether. We risk losing our church if we don’t change to be able to speak the transforming power of the gospel into today’s society and we risk losing our church if we change to meet the current needs without first discovering and protecting our unique DNA: what makes us uniquely us.
